The saffron milk-cap
It belongs to the Lactarius family. Its flavor is very delicate. The height of the saffron milk-cap is 6-14cm. At first, the cap is convex, later it becomes broadly vase-shaped, carrot orange or orange, with clear concentric zones of color often discolored greenish at maturity. The margin is sometimes inrolled. Dry cap glitters like powdered glass, and it is slimy when wet. The stem narrows at the root, often becoming hollow as time passes by. It is orange in colour, sometimes with visible dark orange depressions. Drops of milk can be seen at the smallest injury of the plant. When it makes contact with the air, it oxidizes and becomes greenish or dark brown. The fungus is brittle and breakable. There are no poisonous species. It can be found in coniferous forests and on wet lawns at 1500m to 2000m above sea level. It is usually grilled, but also can be used sour, brined or in salads.
